Frank Roth was born on Friday, October 11, 1878, in Chicago, Illinois. Roth was 24
years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 18, 1903, with the
Philadelphia Phillies.
Francis Charles Roth was a Major League Baseball catcher. He played all or part
of six seasons in the majors, between 1903 and 1910, for the Philadelphia
Phillies, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds.
Roth's brother was former major league outfielder Braggo Roth.
FRANK ROTH was a Burlington resident & he played for the NEW YORK
YANKEES. Mr. ROTH died APRIL 6, 1955, at the age of 76 years, at his home at
644 CHESTNUT ST. Mr. ROTH played, coached & scouted professional baseball
for more than 31 years. He joined the WHITE SOX in 1906 & helped them to win 2
pennants. In 1909 he went to CINCINNATI for 3 years. He then went to the
YANKEES & became its first pitching coach. As a youth MR. ROTH spent his
summers with his uncle & aunt Mr. & Mrs. FRANK BELLER, a well known police
chief of Burlington. He spent 40 years of his life in Burlington.
FRANK ROTH had a brother by the name of ROBERT "BRAGGO" ROTH. He played
professional baseball for the WHITE SOX, YANKEES, and ATHLETICS. He came to
BURLINGTON to make his home in 1918. He died in an automobile crash in
Chicago at the age of 44.
