Titan Teams are to be weekend tournament teams that will provide an opportunity
for players in our program to participate in more games at a higher and more
competitive level. It is to be governed by a subcommittee of the Burlington Little
League Board. It will be co-sponsored by Burlington Little League but the majority
of the programs expenses will be funded by separate player costs, separate
sponsors, and fundraisers.
Proposed guidelines by BLL board:
1) Subcommittee formed of 5-6 members w/ at least 2-3 non board members.
a) Chairman to oversee the committee. Must be board member. Main
communicator w/ Little League Board. I will do it for next (2) years after that we
will need a replacement.
b) Committee members to oversee scheduling of tournaments, fundraising,
uniforms, coaching selections, etc.
2009 COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE: Scott Behnke (Chairman), Brad Otter, Brad
Brenner, Scott Safar, Tom Krause, Jodene Strommen and Dale Damon.
2) Team Set up
a) There will be one team for each age group, U9-U14. Each team will
consist of at least 12-14 players. There will be an open tryout each winter for
these teams.
b) They must be part of our LL program by playing on one of our other in
house teams. They can be out of our LL area but they must be waivered in
and play on one of our local league teams. Any other, kids from area will have
to petition this committee for inclusion in our program. (side note these kids
may play on Titans then, but they will not be allowed to play on All Star teams.)
That rule is from Williamsport!!
c) Teams will consist of U9, U10, U11, U12 and possibly U13 and U14. We
will allow 8 yr olds to try out for U9 team. All other teams are strictly that age
group. If an 8 yr old plays U9 he must play U9 again as a 9 yr old, they will not
be allowed to play U10.
d) Kids must play at their age level(no moving up). Age date is same as LL
date of May 1. Whatever their age is, as of May 1. That is their playing age.
Almost all of the tournaments use that date for age cut-off. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
e) Coaches will be selected by the Chairman of the committee and approved
by the Little League Board assuming they pass all background checks, etc.
3) Tournaments Set Up
a) U9-U10, 4 tournaments per age group. Option of more tournaments up
to coaches, parents, and potential sponsors. Tournaments will be scheduled
through our committee. Coaches will not be allowed to schedule or change
any tournament dates without approval of Titan Committee Chairman.
b) U11 thru U14, 4 tournaments per age group. Option of more
tournaments up to coaches, parents, and potential sponsors. Tournaments
will be scheduled through our committee. Coaches will not be allowed to
schedule or change any tournament dates without approval of Titan
Committee Chairman.
4) Financial Support
a) This program is being sponsored though our own local Baseball
League but it is total separate entity and has no ties w/ Little League Baseball
of America. We have to get our own separate insurance as well as funding to
run these teams.
b) Main forms of financing our program:
1) Player Fee $50, cover cost of jersey and hat. Insurance and
tourney fees can be covered by fundraisers(tournaments, sponsors, etc.)
2) Host tournaments(2). June 13-14, U11, U12, U13. July 10-12 U9,
U10, U14. $350 entry fee. 6 teams per each field
3) Sponsors for each team.
Rules to Remember:
1) Titan team program comes second to Burlington Little League. Never
should games, tournaments, or practices be scheduled during Burlington LL
games, that could cause a conflict.
2) These teams are to be highly competitive teams that will allow these kids a
chance to learn and compete at a higher level. However, all kids may not get equal
playing time, but they should all get fair playing time. It’s great to WIN, but at this
level it is more important for them to develop better baseball and life skills.
